South Australian Beach Volleyball Series

 

The South Australian Beach Volleyball Series (SABVS) provides a premier competition platform for elite players, developing teams, and emerging junior athletes. The series brings together talent from across the state, as well as interstate and international players, creating a competitive and supportive environment that promotes skill development, pathway progression, and a strong beach volleyball community in South Australia.

Events are typically held at Glenelg Beach. However, due to limited court availability, some divisions may be scheduled at SASI Kidman Park or Mawson Lakes.

All participants must hold a Full Adult or Full Junior Volleyball SA (VSA) membership, which includes personal accident insurance. Interstate and international players should contact competitions@volleyballsa.com.au with their current membership number for eligibility enquiries.

What is SABVS?

Unlike indoor volleyball competitions, which are played weekly, SABVS is played on a single full day every 1–2 weekends throughout the summer, across 10–12 rounds, including a Championship/Final. SABVS allows you to pick and choose which dates and events you would like to nominate for. You do not have to commit to a full season, and you can change your partner for each event.

There are two options to play in the SA Beach Volleyball Series. Players can nominate in Pairs for any combined ''Challenger'' and ''Elite12'' Rounds, or in teams of three for ''Futures''.

Elite 12 and Challenger
Held on either Saturdays or Sundays (unless stated otherwise). Matches usually commence at 8:00 AM, with Grand Finals scheduled for 5:00 PM.

Futures
Also held on Saturdays or Sundays (unless stated otherwise). Matches run:

• • Saturdays: 8:30 AM – 1:00 PM
  • Sundays: 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM

Every player will receive individual VA ranking points for each round they play (excluding Futures). Points are awarded based on participation and performance—the more you play and the more matches you win, the more points you earn. This results in a higher ranking and better seeding for future rounds. Please find an overview of the distribution of ranking points HERE.

After nominating for a round, your combined individual ranking points will determine your team’s seeding and the grade (Elite 12 or Challenger) you will compete in.

Example: If you are a new team and neither player has competed before (no SABVS ranking points), you will start in the lowest available grade unless you apply for a wildcard.

Exemption: If you win your grade in a round, you may compete in the next grade up in a subsequent round.

Price: Elite 12 / Challenger entry fee; $87.27, Futures entry fee; $65.45

If you are already 16 years old but not yet confident to play Pairs, please get in touch via shania.w@volleyballsa.com.au to apply for a potential exemption to compete in the 15s Threes grades.

Below is a guide to the SABVS grades and the most common draw formats. The draws can vary and will depend on the total number of nominations and court availability. Every team gets to play at least three matches and will have refereeing duties. The top Referee of each team must have a VA Level 1 accreditation.
