Stage 1 of Mile End Sports Complex Redevelopment Now Open
30 April 2026
Performance Our People JuniorsStage 1 of the $92 million redevelopment of the Mile End Sports Complex is now complete, with Adelaide Metropolitan Netball Division competitions returning to the upgraded outdoor courts earlier this week.
The $12 million Stage 1, jointly funded by the State and Federal Governments, has transformed all 26 outdoor courts, adding new playing surfaces, improved LED lighting, player shelters, seating, first aid facilities, water fountains, and food options.
Stage 2 is underway, with the demolition of the existing Mile End Stadium making way for a new multi-sport indoor facility, including a 3,000-seat main court and upgraded amenities for athletes and spectators. This will be the new home of Volleyball in South Australia, the first time in the sport’s history that the state will have a dedicated venue.
Karla Della Pietra, CEO of Volleyball SA, said:
“For the first time, our sport will have a true home. A world-class venue that reflects the scale, professionalism and potential of Volleyball as a global Olympic sport. The new Mile End Sports Complex will transform how we deliver the game at every level, from grassroots participation to high-performance pathways. Providing a home for Volleyball will inspire the next generation of athletes and ensure our sport continues to expand in line with its rapid growth. We look forward to working alongside the Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing and Netball SA on this important sporting infrastructure project.”
The full redevelopment, scheduled to open in 2028, will provide a world-class venue supporting community sport, high-performance pathways, and major national and international events.
