Volleyball SA PARTNERS WITH SAMMY D FOR 2025 VIOLENCE PREVENTION ROUND
1 July 2025
SAVL Our PeopleVolleyball SA partnered with the Sammy D Foundation for Violence Prevention Round during Round 11 of the SA Volleyball League on 28 June.
Across all SAVL venues, players and coaches wore blue armbands to show their support for the Sammy D Foundation and to promote the message that violence has no place in our sport, our clubs or our communities. Everyone involved in volleyball has a role to play in creating safer spaces—for teammates, for kids, and for the next generation of athletes.
Posters were displayed across venues with information about the impact of youth violence and how we can all contribute to positive change. Players and coaches also shared messages about how they promote mateship, respect, and safety within their teams.
Clubs came together to speak up on the importance of being friends, spreading kindness and saying no to violence. Pre-match photos captured a sense of unity, with clubs standing together, rather than taking separate team photos—showing that this message is bigger than rivalry.
We also highlighted words previously shared by Chris McHugh, a local volleyball champion and Sammy D champion, on the importance of looking out for each other and setting the standard for safer communities.
The Sammy D Foundation was founded in 2008 after 17-year-old Sam Davis tragically lost his life to a one-punch attack. The Foundation works to educate and empower young people to prevent violence and make positive life choices.
Volleyball SA is proud to stand with the Sammy D Foundation to help create a safer, stronger community through sport.
