Our PeopleThe 2024 Club and Coach Development Conference will provide attendees with the ideas, knowledge, best practice and contacts to assist them in running their club and executing their roles effectively.
We welcome all members of the South Australian volleyball and wider sport and recreation community to join us at the Adelaide 36ers Arena on October 12 and 13, with the conference coinciding with the 2024 Mahindra Australian Volleyball Super League Finals Series. Your ticket to the conference also includes entry to these matches!
The conference will be split into two streams where both days will see a line-up of industry experts providing the latest insights and information on a variety of topics applicable to club administrators and coaches.

Tim Fiegert, National Integrity Manager, Volleyball Australia
With over 17 years in law enforcement and public safety, Tim has led the development and implementation of specialised training programs for law enforcement and military across the Asia Pacific region. Tim now brings this unique skillset and perspective to sports integrity, with a mission to equip Australian Volleyball with the knowledge, tools, and integrity framework needed to enhance operational effectiveness, ultimately promoting the safety and integrity of the sport.

Gavin Macdonald, Head of Strategic Projects, Volleyball Australia
Gavin is an experienced sports administrator and consultant passionate about building strong and sustainable sporting organisations. His expertise lies in strategic planning, governance, commercialisation, and change management. Gavin has a proven track record of developing and implementing successful governance structures, policies, and programs that enhance performance and drive positive outcomes for athletes, members, and stakeholders.

Jane Russo, Stakeholder and Engagement expert
A passionate volunteer, Jane is an advisor, presenter, mentor, and trainer for the inclusion of all in sport, genuine engagement, women’s leadership, and leading change where outcomes benefit the community. Jane’s leadership roles have extended as a board director across various corporate, sport and volunteer organisations. Currently, she is an Elected Member of the City of Unley and Chair of Athletics South Australia.

Wellbeing and Engagement – What is Wellbeing, How to Implement it Every Level
Jane Altschwager, Athlete Wellbeing & Engagement Lead, Shooting Australia
Jane is a former Australian Diamond Netballer who made over 90 appearances in the National League Netball Competition, captained two teams and was a member of three premiership winning squads. After retiring from netball, Jane went on to play for North Adelaide in the SANFL Women's League. Off court, Jane works in Elite Athlete Wellbeing Management and is currently with Shooting Australia, looking after current and hopeful Olympic and Paralympic athletes. Hear from Jane on all things athlete wellbeing and how to implement it at every level.
High Performance Environments – A HP Coaching Journey, Develop HP Environments
Hugh Purvis, Assistant Coach, Hockeyroos
Hugh is the current Assistant Coach for the Hockeyroos and brings a wealth of elite coaching experience, most recently from the 2024 Olympics. With a strong focus on high-performance strategy and athlete development, Hugh has worked within Canadian and Australian hockey pathway programs as well as navigating Olympic qualification with Canada in 2019-20 and the Hockeyroos through 2022-2024. Hear from Hugh about his coaching journey and how to develop an effective and positive high-performance environment for your athletes.
