Performance Our People Juniors CompetitiveEver wondered what our tier 2 athletes get up to?
We caught up with Performance Pathway athlete, Kane Johnson, for an update!
"Pathways has helped me become more of a leader by learning the skills myself and being able to transfer them to younger athletes. I've learnt a combination of fundamental skills and techniques that have given me the ability to shine at my club, and also the technical skills to impress high-level coaches and athletes" says Kane.
"The coaching in the Pathway is good and the structure they come up with for training is great ... by giving me a coach who has the right expertise, it helps me work towards my goal of being a professional athlete" he goes on to say.
Since joining the Pathway Program, Kane says he has excelled in his volleyball and has achieved many accomplishments. Some of his favourite ones are; representing South Australia in the U18, U19, and U23 state teams, making the 2024 Adelaide Storm squad, moving from SAVL Div 3 to Reserves in his first year in Pathways, and eventually being selected as the starting middle in his club's League team, and lastly, being on his school's leadership team as they took 3rd place at the Australian Volleyball School's Cup in Queensland.
Kane finished up with the following statement: "I'm proud of the tier 2 system and what athletes can take out of the program. There is lots of hard work that goes into making sure that we have the correct training and equipment to get bigger and better as we get older and progress further in our volleyball careers."
