Volleyball South Australia Announces New President and Chairperson as Two South Australian Volleyball Legends
Adelaide, SA - Volleyball South Australia (VSA) is excited to announce the appointment of two South Australian volleyball legends to its leadership team: former Australian Team Captain Olivia Orchard as Chairperson and Olympian Becchara Palmer as President, effective immediately. These appointments came after the previous Chairperson and President, Scott Mansell, stepped down from his duties in recent weeks.
Olivia Orchard, as Chairperson, will ensure Board effectiveness, promoting a positive, collaborative environment for Directors and management to drive the strategic direction of VSA. Becchara Palmer, as President, will champion the sport's interests across the state, focusing on increasing visibility and building relationships with the community, government, and key commercial partners.
Changes to the Volleyball SA constitution at the last AGM allow for the separate roles of President and Chairperson. These new appointments are a significant development for the organisation, positioning it for a promising future in the state's sporting landscape.
Olivia Orchard brings a wealth of financial acumen and leadership experience. She has represented Australia in both indoor and beach volleyball and was captain of the Australian women's indoor team. Her financial and business expertise and passion for volleyball will continue to be invaluable to VSA's success.
“I am truly honoured to step into this role and have thoroughly enjoyed my time on the Board over the last few years. After a hiatus from volleyball in SA, it has been the perfect way to rejoin the community and contribute on the other side of my playing career. The dedication of the VSA team and the wider community is inspirational. I look forward to working closely with the Board, VSA management and key stakeholders as we enter an exciting and challenging period for volleyball in this state over the next few years. Scott will be sorely missed, and I'd like to thank him for his service and leadership.” says Olivia Orchard.
Becchara Palmer is an experienced Australian beach volleyball Olympian (London 2012) and a Marketing Advisor. Her vast experience in digital marketing and deep connection to volleyball make her an ideal candidate for championing the sport’s growth in South Australia.
"Volleyball has been such a huge part of my life, and I'm passionate about supporting the incredible growth the VSA team has already achieved and sharing our great sports with more South Australians. The next few years hold amazing potential for more people to discover volleyball in South Australia, and I'm excited to play a small role in making that happen." says Becchara Palmer.
“I’m excited to welcome Becchara and Olivia into their leadership positions. Their passion and experience in the sport and professional careers, respectively, will elevate our organisation to new heights.” Says Karla Della Pietra, CEO of Volleyball SA. “This change is happening just in time for the 2025 Beach Volleyball World Championships and will prepare us for an exciting era of volleyball in South Australia.”
The VSA Board of Directors and Staff wish to extend sincere thanks to outgoing President and Chairperson Scott Mansell for his dedicated service since 2020. Volleyball SA deeply appreciates his invaluable contribution, and we wish him all the very best.
