Storm Men's Head Coach Announced
8 February 2024
Performance Our People CompetitiveVolleyball SA is excited to announce Derek Slater will return as Head Coach of the Adelaide Storm men’s team in 2024.
It will mark Derek’s third season at the helm of South Australia’s senior representative men’s team, since taking on the role in 2022.
Under his leadership, the Adelaide Storm men’s team earned back-to-back Silver Medals in their last two Australian Volleyball League campaigns.
Having achieved podium finishes in 2022 and 2023, Derek is confident the Storm can continue their strong form this season.
“I am excited to return as coach of the Adelaide Storm for another campaign. Season 1 of AVSL was fantastic to be involved in, and it was interesting to see how teams changed their tactical approach as the season progressed. Heading into season 2 it is important to keep challenging the playing group and to continue to create an environment that is positive and one that the players want to be involved in.
We have been so close over the past 2 seasons, and the main goal still remains to be there again on finals day. However, such an opportunity will only come if everyone devotes themselves to the team and works together.”
Derek has an extensive history in high-performance pathways, starting in 2004 when he coached his first state team for South Australia.
He is also currently the Head Coach for the Mount Lofty Volleyball Club league men’s team.
The 2024 Scape Australian Volleyball Super League begins this August, with the Adelaide Storm’s fixture to be announced.
