Breakthrough Round
17 May 2023
Our People CompetitiveVolleyball SA’s SAVL Round 8, in collaboration with Breakthrough Mental Health Research Foundation.
Volleyball SA is gearing up for a special round of games on May 27th, where the focus will be on mental health. In collaboration with Breakthrough Mental Health Research Foundation, Volleyball SA is working to raise awareness and promote mental wellness among its members.
This is the second year that Volleyball SA has had a Breakthrough Community Round, and this year it aligns with the state-wide mental health round. The round will feature:
Mt Lofty playing against Henley at Heathfield at 14:00,
Norwood playing against South Adelaide at The Lights at 14:00,
and Austral playing against USC at Mitchell Park at 18:30.
Prior to the round commencing, Breakthrough will be hosting an education seminar to educate clubs on Mental Health and having a conversation. During the "Breakthrough Community Round”, athletes are encouraged to wear arm tape that will be supplied. There will also be signage and educational posters provided to encourage open conversations around mental health and provide resources and support for those who may be struggling.
In addition, there will be merchandise available for purchase during the round, with proceeds going towards supporting Breakthrough Mental Health Research Foundation's important work in the community. This is a great opportunity for volleyball fans and players alike to show their support for mental health awareness and help make a difference in the lives of those affected by mental health challenges.
"At Volleyball SA, we believe that mental wellness is just as important as physical health, and we're proud to partner with Breakthrough to promote mental health awareness and support our members." Says Karla Della Pietra, CEO of Volleyball SA. "We hope that the 'Breakthrough Community Round' will encourage open conversations around mental health and provide resources and support for those who may be struggling. By working together, we can help break down the stigma and create a more supportive community for all."
John Mannion, CEO of Breakthrough,
“With over 1.5 million people participating in sport in some capacity throughout SA, the Breakthrough Community Round is the perfect opportunity to grow the mental health conversation. Sporting clubs are trusted voices in their communities and are an ideal vehicle to
drive the message about mental health awareness and the need for research. It’s incredible to see associations such as Volleyball South Australia being so proactive in their approach to better mental health.”
So, mark your calendars for round 8 on May 27th and join Volleyball SA in supporting mental health awareness and aiding the important work and research that’s done for the community. Let’s break down the stigma around mental health and show that we’re all in this together.
