15 July 2022
Performance CompetitiveAfter two long years without an Australian Volleyball League competition due to Covid, we see the return of this competition in a home and away format.
Volleyball SA is pleased to announce our Adelaide Storm Head Coaches for the 2022 season.
Derek Slater – Men’s Head Coach
Derek’s passion for volleyball started at a young age when he competed at his first Schools Cup.
In his full time role as a school teacher he has implemented programs in his school to allow numerous children to be able to experience the same enjoyment and passion he had for volleyball. He is involved with the volleyball program at Heathfield High School and is the current coach of the Open Honours Boys team.
Derek’s journey in high performance pathways started in 2004 when he coached his first state team for South Australia. He has continued to coach representative volleyball since then and has been a positive influence in numerous athletes lives through the impactful connections he makes.
He is currently the Head Coach for the Mt Lofty SAVL League Men’s team.
Alexis Lebedew – Women’s Head Coach
Alexis started coaching in the early 1990s and soon became Assistant Coach of the South Australian Sports Institute men’s volleyball team.
He then worked as a coach and performance analyst with the Australian beach volleyball program.
Alexis continued to work in high performance sport in the United States, Singapore and in Australia also spent time at the Australian Institute of Sport.
After some years coaching in the United States he returned to Australia and worked as a sport scientist at the Australian Institute of Sport.
He has now returned to Australia and is currently working for Swimming Australia as Coach Education & Development Manager.
Most recently Alexis was the Head Coach for the U23s women at the Australian Junior Volleyball Championships in Sydney.
Volleyball SA are excited to welcome these two experienced coaches who are highly regarded in the volleyball community. Both coaches have impressive resumes and coaching philosophies that align with the high-performance standards which an AVL program demands and VSA envisages.
