The 2018 Junior League Grading Tournament was held over the weekend of April 7 and 8. The annual grading tournament is in place to ensure junior league teams are set in correct divisions before the season gets underway in early May. The tournament is also a great way for teams to come together and get some match practice in with their new teammates before the season.
From the 110+ teams that nominated for the Junior League season over 80 teams from both the u19 and u17 divisions were involved over the weekend. Saturday saw teams nominated in u19 (Division 3 and below) as well as our inaugural U17 divisions at Mt Lofty. Sunday at Brighton hosted the U19 Division 1 and 2 teams as well as those playing off for the final State League Junior ‘Wildcard’ positions!
The weekend is designed to give teams 3-4 short/sharp games whilst the Junior Committee observe and make necessary adjustments to the divisions based on what they see over the two days. Teams also get a chance to perform the duty roles on the weekend including top refereeing, scoring, line judging – some for the first time!
With some minor adjustments in the fixture after the tournament together with some late teams formed with new players joining, we are now all set to start another bumper Junior League season on 4 May. Good luck to all our volleyball stars of the future!
