Skin Checks at VSA
25 March 2024
As athletes and staff at Volleyball South Australia, we recognise the significance of sun safety, especially as we engage in beach competitions under the glaring sun. We recently marked a crucial step in our commitment to maintaining the health and well-being of our team as Mobile Screening conducted comprehensive skin checks for all our staff members.
The harsh Australian sun poses serious risks to our skin health, and as individuals who spend considerable time outdoors, we must remain vigilant about protecting ourselves from harmful UV rays. Skin checks play a pivotal role in the early detection and prevention of skin cancers, which can often go unnoticed without proper examination.
Mobile Screening's visit emphasised the importance of regular check-ups, reminding us all to prioritise our health and well-being. We urge not only our staff but also our broader community to schedule regular skin checks as part of their healthcare routine. Early detection can be lifesaving, and we must do everything in our power to stay informed and proactive about our health.
Additionally, it's essential to adhere to the 'Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek, and Slide' mantra recommended by health authorities:
- Slip on sun-protective clothing
- Slop on sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher
- Slap on a wide-brimmed hat
- Seek shade whenever possible
- Slide on sunglasses to protect your eyes
